Mischief Insight & Impact
Location: Australia

Dr Terri Simpkin works at the messy intersection of digital infrastructure, education, research, workforce analysis and the human elements tasked with holding it all together. As a contributor to Nomad Futurist and Careers in the Cloud, she brings a practical, systems-oriented lens to one of the sector’s most persistent challenges: how we build dynamic technical and human capabilities across the entire talent pipeline, from entry-level pathways through to the C-suite.

Part academic, part industry insider, part translator of complexity, Terri has built an international career across Europe, North America, and Australia helping organisations think more clearly about how capability is developed, recognised, and too often overlooked. She designed and led the first postgraduate program in Data Centre Leadership and Management, and continues to shape how the industry approaches workforce development as a whole system, not a series of disconnected interventions.

A regular speaker at industry events around the world, her work focuses on the full talent lifecycle: opening doors for those who don’t yet see themselves in the sector, supporting early career development, and working with senior leaders navigating increasingly complex organisational and technological landscapes. She is particularly interested in the complexities of agentic workforces, evolving leadership paradigms for the digital age and strategic alignment in highly dynamic contexts. This includes exploring the role of place-based leadership and stakeholder interactions in the digital infrastructure space.

Terri’s contributions and thought leadership have been recognised globally. She was named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in the Data Economy, included in the Infrastructure Mason’s 100, and awarded the Brynn Fowler Agent of Change recognition by Global Women in Tech, which she considers both an honour and a nudge to keep working to elevate the contributions of women in tech.

She brings a lightly irreverent, sharply practical voice to conversations about workforce futures, leadership, and capability, making the invisible visible, and the complex more accessible.
